CEC chairman: Almost 80,000 observers to monitor voting process in Azerbaijan

Nearly 80,000 people have the right to observe the voting process in Azerbaijan's municipal elections, chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan, Mazahir Panahov, said, talking about the start of municipal elections, Report informs.

He noted that the preparation for the elections was carried out in full: "Municipal elections are organized in accordance with all requirements. In total, 71,209 people will monitor the voting process, including observers, members of precinct and district election commissions, as well as members of expert groups. If we add media representatives, the total number of people entitled to monitor the voting process approaches 80,000."

The voting will continue until 7 p.m. (GMT+4). The elections are being held at 5,846 polling stations covering 118 electoral districts.

As many as 16,092 candidates are competing for 8,071 seats in 685 municipalities.

According to the Central Election Commission (CEC), 5,961,987 voters are eligible to participate in the elections.

January 29 has been declared a non-working day in Azerbaijan due to the elections.
