Azerbaijan highlights digital transformation of heritage

Azerbaijan attaches great importance to international cooperation in the field of digital transformation of cultural heritage, Deputy Culture Minister Saadat Yusifova said at the opening of the panel session titled "Cultural Heritage and Modern Technologies: Application of Digital Solutions" held in Baku, Report informs.
"The preservation and protection of cultural heritage is not only part of cultural policy, but also an important component of urban planning processes. In this regard, cultural heritage monuments are a strategic priority for future urban planning and overall development," she said.
According to Yusifova, addressing modern challenges in the protection of cultural heritage is an important part of Azerbaijan's state policy.
"While the assessment of historical monuments used to take months, today the process is carried out more flexibly and quickly thanks to digital systems," she noted.
The deputy minister also touched upon restoration and reconstruction work in Karabakh and East Zangazur.
She said that since 2020, field research on immovable historical and cultural assets has been conducted in the liberated territories.
"As part of this work, electronic documents and other sources are being studied, digital maps are being created, and information is being systematized in a digital environment," Yusifova stated.
She also drew attention to the danger posed by landmines, noting that the inventory of 130 monuments in the liberated territories has not yet been carried out due to mine threats.
The event is being held as part of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).
