The construction industry accounts for approximately 39% of global carbon dioxide emissions, stated Technical Advisor of Ciputra Group and Managing Director of Global Entrepreneurship Network Indonesia Ivan Sandjaja at the panel session "Urban Value Chain in Action: Business Leadership for Inclusive, Smart and Sustainable Cities" within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.
Of this, 28% is related to the operational energy consumption of buildings - heating, air conditioning, and lighting, while the remaining 11% is attributed to embodied carbon contained in construction materials such as cement and steel.
"Green construction today is no longer just an option - it has become a necessity both in the context of reducing carbon emissions and in terms of lowering operational costs. Given the rapid urbanization process in Indonesia, this issue is becoming particularly pressing," he emphasized.
