Tajikistan calls Baku's circular green tourism initiative extremely relevant

Tajikistan considers Azerbaijan's initiative to develop circular green tourism in the countries of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) to be extremely relevant, Tajikistan's Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Ilhom Abdurahmon, said at the Circular Green Tourism in CICA Countries conference held in Baku, Report informs.

The diplomat noted that the circular green tourism initiative, put forward by Azerbaijan during its CICA chairmanship, is particularly significant given global environmental challenges.

"At a time when the world faces challenges related to climate change, environmental degradation, and the sustainable use of natural resources, tourism must go beyond its traditional economic function. It must become a powerful tool for supporting the environment, cultural preservation, social integration, and regional cooperation," Abdurahmon stated.

According to him, Tajikistan views the tourism industry as an important tool for raising environmental awareness and contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals.

The ambassador stressed that the concept of green tourism emphasizes not only increasing tourist flows but also preserving ecosystems, supporting local economies, protecting cultural heritage, and improving public well-being.

"In this context, regional cooperation among CICA member states is particularly important. Through the exchange of experiences, best practices, and environmental solutions, we can build more sustainable and resilient tourism systems throughout our region," the diplomat noted.

Ilhom Abdurahmon recalled that Tajikistan is the coordinator of confidence-building measures in tourism within the CICA and will continue to contribute to joint initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable and environmentally responsible tourism development.
