Direct Shanghai-Baku flights to launch in May 2027

A direct Shanghai-Baku flight is planned to increase tourist arrivals from China to Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Tourism Board Florian Sengstschmid said.

Speaking at the event, "Unlocking Azerbaijan's Tourism Potential for Economic Growth and Diversification," in Baku, Sengstschmid said Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) plans to launch flights on the Shanghai-Baku route from May next year.

He noted that Azerbaijan opened a tourism office in Beijing two months ago and is holding talks with other Chinese airlines on establishing additional direct flights.

"China is a priority market for us," Sengstschmid said, emphasizing the importance of expanding air connectivity to attract more Chinese visitors to Azerbaijan.
