George Russell: Qualifying in Baku went perfectly for me

Mercedes driver George Russell, who secured pole position for the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, said qualifying had gone perfectly for him.

According to Report, the British driver made the remarks after the session.

"There are some challenges with handling the car on the Baku track. But overall, the laps were good. Qualifying went perfectly for me," Russell said.

Russell, who finished more than eight-tenths of a second ahead of his nearest rivals, Charles Leclerc and Oscar Piastri, described the gap as the biggest of his racing career.

Commenting on his expectations for tomorrow's race, the Mercedes driver said: "I feel confident, but Max Verstappen is also very fast. I think we have a good chance to fight for the win, but this is Baku, and anything can happen."

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix will conclude on September 26.
