Safi Arpagus: Turkic states must eliminate confusion over fatwas

Confusion surrounding fatwas in Turkic states must be resolved, Safi Arpagus, President of Türkiye's Presidency of Religious Affairs, stated at the 7th Meeting of Council of Heads of Muslim Religious Boards of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Baku, Report informs.

Arpagus explained that the OTS has become a respected religious strategic alliance: "We must eliminate confusion over fatwas in Turkic states. Cooperation is essential in determining common dates for religious holidays, Ramadan, and Eid al‑Adha, as well as in areas such as halal food."

The official underscored that attempts by certain forces to associate Islam with violence and terrorism, along with systematic pressure, hate speech, and xenophobia against Muslims in various regions, are deeply concerning.

"As Turkic states, we must develop common positions and strategies against harmful currents that threaten our stability and internal security. Increasing the exchange of experience among religious institutions of Turkic states is vital. This can help prevent the global misperception of Islam and its exploitation by terrorist organizations," he said.
