67 mosques documented in Azerbaijan's liberated territories

In the territories liberated of Azerbaijan, 67 mosques, 139 temples, and 192 shrines have been identified as historical‑religious monuments, the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations of Azerbaijan told Report.

The committee stated that during the occupation, 65 of the 67 mosques were completely destroyed, while two were partially damaged and rendered unusable.

Since liberation, extensive restoration projects have been carried out under the leadership of First Vice‑President Mehriban Aliyeva through the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Within this framework, mosques such as Yukhari Govhar Agha, Ashaghi Govhar Agha, Saatli, Mamayi, Chol Gala, Dashalti in Shusha, as well as the Juma and Qiyasli mosques in Aghdam, have been restored in line with their original architectural style.

Additionally, new mosques have been built in Zangilan city, Hadrut settlement of Khojavand district, and Sugovushan village of Aghdara district, while the Ghazancha church in Shusha has undergone reconstruction to match its original appearance. At present, new mosques are under construction in Shusha, Jabrayil, and Fuzuli cities.
