Zakharova: "Russia is grateful to Turkiye for its role as mediator in resolving conflict in Ukraine"

“We are grateful to the countries, politicians and heads of state who have always acted as mediators and offered their efforts,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a weekly briefing while commenting on the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's proposal to hold a meeting between Moscow, Kyiv and the UN representatives in Istanbul, Report informs.

“We are grateful for any mediation request in any situation. This is especially important against the background of the fact that many countries act contrary to their own laws and traditions, or continue the tradition of aggressive rhetoric and refuse any diplomatic efforts without a peaceful settlement,” she said.

Zakharova also noted that any idea on mediation is always valuable.

Earlier, during a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan offered to hold a meeting between Russia, Ukraine and the UN in Istanbul.
