Yerevan offers Moscow agreement for legal solution to Rome Statute

Armenia invited Russia to sign a bilateral agreement for a legal solution on the issue of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Armenian representative on international legal issues Yeghishe Kirakosyan said at a briefing.

"We proposed to the Russian Federation to conclude a bilateral agreement so that Russia’s fears are dispelled if the Rome Statute is ratified by Armenia. The text was presented several months ago, in April. We are waiting for the reaction of our counterparts," he said.

As for the possibility of arresting Russian President Vladimir Putin in the event of a visit to Armenia, according to Kirakosyan, there can be no talk of this, talk about it is'unreasonable.'

"Firstly, the current leaders of countries are endowed with immunity. And secondly, decisions, which are based on Article 98 of the Charter of the Rome Statute, were proposed to our Russian counterparts," he explained.
