Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said New Tashkent will become a major development hub, beautify the capital and showcase the strength of the new Uzbekistan.
According to a Report correspondent in Tashkent, the president made the remarks at a ceremony marking the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan's independence.
Mirziyoyev noted that holding the country's main national celebration in New Tashkent makes the event even more solemn.
The day before, the New Uzbekistan University, Nizami National Pedagogical University and the National Library of Uzbekistan were opened there. According to the president, the area will eventually become a center for science, education and culture.
"I am confident that New Tashkent will become a major development hub, beautify our capital and demonstrate the strength of the new Uzbekistan that we are building," Mirziyoyev said.
He also noted that residents will witness many joyful and historic events in the area.
A musical fountain is also scheduled to open during the ceremony. It is listed in the Guinness World Records as the tallest musical fountain in the world.
