Uzbekistan has transferred 236 hectares of land with two settlements to Kyrgyzstan as part of the demarcation of the state border.
Report informs via Kaktus.Media that Askat Alagozov, press secretary of the Kyrgyz president, wrote about this on social media.
According to him, the settlements are the villages of Chongara and Tash-Tobo, home to 2,500 ethnic Kyrgyz.
"Registration procedures will now be carried out in these villages, and after they are completed, their residents will be granted citizenship of the Kyrgyz Republic. In exchange for these settlements, the Kyrgyz side transferred land plots of equal size in the border area to the Republic of Uzbekistan," Alagozov said.
He added that the exchange of land plots of equal size was carried out for the construction of a road from the village of Sai to the village of Tayan. As a result, residents of Batken region will now be able to travel from Aidarken to Batken over a distance of about 55 kilometers instead of the current 225-kilometer bypass road.
