Ukraine demands more than $300B in compensation from Moscow

Ukraine’s justice minister has said that Russia should pay his country at least $300 billion in compensation for the damage inflicted by the Kremlin’s war of assault, Report informs.

Denys Maliuska made the statement in an interview with German media outlets, Polish state news agency PAP reported on Friday.

“We want compensation for all the damage Russia has done to Ukraine as a result of the war,” the official said, as cited by PAP.

Maliuska added that the government in Kyiv would ask the United Nations General Assembly “to adopt a resolution providing the basis for an international mechanism of reparations.”

The damage inflicted on Ukraine by the Russian invasion is already estimated to be much higher than EUR 300 billion, Germany’s DPA news agency reported, as quoted by PAP.

However, the sum of EUR 300 billion corresponds to the value of the assets held by the Bank of Russia in G7 countries; these assets have been frozen due to Western sanctions, PAP reported, citing DPA.

Ukraine’s justice minister added that Kyiv demanded access “to the foreign assets of Russian state companies and to the confiscated wealth of Russian oligarchs,” the PAP news agency reported.
