"We cannot comment on Ukraine's desire to join NATO, but we must be very realistic," said Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in an interview with Bloomberg, Report informs via Haber Global.
When asked whether US President Donald Trump would change his stance on Ukraine's NATO membership, Hakan Fidan responded: "I'm not sure if the previous US administration was in favor of Ukraine's NATO membership. Therefore, I don't think there is a new policy on this issue."
Fidan underscored the need to understand Ukraine's discussions with its European partners and friends regarding potential NATO membership:
"Ukraine's request is not solely about joining NATO but also about ensuring the security of the country."
The Turkish minister reiterated his country's official stance on the issue: "As President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stated, we cannot comment on Ukraine's desire to join NATO, but we must be realistic."
