Tokayev: Peace agreement between Baku and Yerevan signed in Washington is a historic achievement

The peace agreement signed in Washington between Azerbaijan and Armenia is a historically important achievement, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said, as quoted by his press secretary Ruslan Zheldibay on Telegram.

According to Report's Kazakhstan bureau, it was noted that the document ended the long-standing military conflict between the two states and opened the way for the establishment of diplomatic relations and the development of cooperation between them on the basis of lasting peace.

The President of Kazakhstan stressed that the signing of this unique agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia became possible thanks to the energetic and effective mediation mission of US President Donald Trump, who was able to persuade the Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders to fully demonstrate political will and strategic foresight.

“President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev notes that Kazakhstan also made its own contribution to reaching these crucial agreements between Azerbaijan and Armenia, by offering the city of Almaty as a venue for talks at the level of foreign ministers on the key parameters of the peace treaty,” Zheldibay said.
