Son of Armenia's Gyumri mayor detained

The son of Armenia's Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan, Spartak Ghukasyan, has been detained, Report informs referring to Armenian media.

According to their information, Spartak Ghukasyan was detained on the morning of September 11 as part of a criminal case related to extortion. It is noted that he was taken to the police department of the Shirak region. The investigation is ongoing.

The media considers the detention of Ghukasyan as a way to put pressure on his father, who is in opposition to the current authorities of Armenia. It is also assumed that the detention of Ghukasyan is possible with his participation in the court hearing on the case of the head of the Shirak Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Archbishop Mikael Ajapakhyan, who was arrested for two months in June 2025.
