Shakarishvili: Expanding Azerbaijan–Uzbekistan co-op boosts Middle Corridor's role

The growing cooperation between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan further enhances the significance of the Middle Corridor, Political analyst and Executive Secretary of the United Neutral Georgia party, Vato Shakarishvili, told Report's Georgian bureau.

Shakarishvili underscored that amid ongoing global conflicts, supply chains and traditional transport routes have been disrupted. He added that many previously established routes are either no longer functioning or are considered unstable and unsafe, which increases the importance of the South Caucasus, particularly the Middle Corridor.

"Georgia and Azerbaijan are working to maximize the benefits of this opportunity, investing in infrastructure and developing services to ensure the route operates under a 'single window' principle, with electronic services, safety, and time efficiency. The goal is to attract more users to this corridor," the expert explained.

He highlighted that Central Asian countries' interest in the Middle Corridor is growing, alongside expanding cooperation between Georgia and Central Asia, as well as Azerbaijan and other regional states.

Shakarishvili further stressed that Georgia is ready to strengthen partnerships further: "Our party, and I believe the country as a whole, aims to transform Georgia from a zone of confrontation into a platform for cooperation. We are committed to this idea, and we see that the Azerbaijani government shares the same approach," he added.
