Shafiyev: EU lobbying circles seek to revive Karabakh issue

Some lobbying circles in European Union countries are once again attempting to put the Karabakh issue on the agenda under the guise of humanitarian concerns, said Farid Shafiyev, chairman of the board of the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center), during a roundtable in Baku organized by the AIR Center and LINKS Europe, Report informs.

He said there is an extensive network of lobbyists and representatives of so-called public advocacy groups within the European Union seeking to revive the Karabakh issue.

Shafiyev stressed that Azerbaijan should remain vigilant, as there are forces interested in obstructing the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

As an example, he cited Ruben Vardanyan, saying it was unusual to see him among the nominees for the Václav Havel Human Rights Prize.

"The same body called Ruben Vardanyan a money launderer and someone who supported military actions against Ukraine," Shafiyev said.

He added that the geopolitical situation in the South Caucasus has changed significantly, while the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict has ended and the two sides are now talking about peace.
