Russia reports 108 coronavirus-related deaths per day

Russia has reported 5,841 new cases of the novel coronavirus, bringing its overall nationwide case tally to 99,399, almost 45% of new cases have no symptoms, Report says, citing RIA Novosti.

"Over the past 24 hours in Russia 5 841 new cases confirmed in 82 regions, including 2624 (44.9%) actively as contact and without clinical manifestations," the Report says.

Moreover, 108 patients with positive COVID-19 have died in the Russian Federation in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 972.

Earlier, Russia had reportedly bypassed Iran and China in number of infections.

On December 31, 2019, Chinese authorities announced an outbreak of pneumonia in China's Wuhan, the causative agent of which is a new type of coronavirus officially named COVID-19.

On March 11, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak of a new coronavirus a pandemic.
