Pezeshkian calls for using Azerbaijan's capabilities to import goods to Iran

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has instructed the government to utilize the capabilities of neighboring countries, including Azerbaijan, to import a number of essential goods, Report informs referring to IRNA.

Pezeshkian issued this instruction following a meeting with ministers and the head of the Central Bank of Iran.

"The president emphasized the need to maximize the potential of the country's northern ports, develop alternative trade corridors, and leverage the capabilities of neighboring countries, including Azerbaijan, Pakistan, and Russia, to secure and import certain essential goods, and called for the accelerated implementation of relevant agreements in this area," the statement reads.

Pezeshkian emphasized that, if necessary, he will personally consult with the leaders of neighboring countries and regional partners to quickly resolve potential obstacles to the supply and transportation of essential goods and medicines.

The meeting participants discussed the current situation with the import of essential goods, medicines, and resources needed by the country, taking into account the restrictions that have arisen at some southern border crossings.

According to the minister of economy's update, as a result of consultations with neighboring countries, the capacity of a significant number of land border crossings and alternative transport routes has been activated and strengthened to simplify and increase the import of goods.
