Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan has commented on the arrest of former President of the country Robert Kocharyan, uncovering his corruption schemes, Report informs, citing a statement made by the Armenian prime minister on Thursday during a briefing following a cabinet meeting.
"Right now, no one is asking the question: where did Robert Kocharyan get these billions? He says, 'We were doing business.' Who are they fooling? Are they really such successful businessmen, while we cannot confiscate anything from anyone?! And having a personal stake in Toyota Yerevan - is that business activity?! <...> Taking lands in the center of Yerevan and selling them for 20 to 30 times the purchase price - is that business?!" Pashinyan stated indignantly.
He also noted that the elimination of corruption schemes is a matter of state importance.
"Both Robert Kocharyan, and (former president) Serzh Sargsyan, and (head of the Prosperous Armenia party) Gagik Tsarukyan <...> must live on their legal pensions and legitimate income. And what was acquired illegally must be returned to the state and its people cent for cent! There is no other option. If this does not happen, it means a new revolution must take place," Pashinyan emphasized.
