In connection with the large-scale military operations of Russia against Ukraine, the Kharkiv Regional Organization of the Red Cross operates in various directions to provide assistance to the residents, said chairman of the organization Konstantin Bashkirov, Report informs.
"For the last 2-3 weeks, shootings have started to be heard more often in the direction of Kupiansk and Vovchansk of the Kharkiv region. So far, we have evacuated 52,000 people from dangerous areas in the Kharkiv region. Currently, the team of the Rapid Operational Response Unit, the International Red Cross Society operating in the Kharkiv region are working here. It includes 107 people. But only 25 people work in the direction of the evacuation of residents. As for the difficulties, first of all, there are problems with vehicles. For example, vehicles need regular maintenance.
"But there are not enough resources for this. In addition, there is a shortage of all-wheel drive vehicles. People also have problems. From spring to autumn of last year, people living in the occupied territories are now finding the strength to do various things. In this sense, all of Ukraine supports them. I mentioned that in the last 2-3 weeks, the direction of Kupiansk has started to be fired more. Every 20-30 minutes, artillery and rockets are fired in this direction. Depending on different directions, it is only 4-10 kilometers from here to the front line. That's why people decide to leave this place. We do not know in which direction events will develop in the near future," Bashkirov said.
He emphasized that since the beginning of March last year, a large number of motivated people have come to help the International Red Cross Society operating in the Kharkiv region: "It is inspiring. They have been very helpful. Obviously, we should help those who need help, if not all. The people who work here are real heroes because they have saved many lives."
