The city of Orikhiv, Zaporizhia Oblast, Ukraine, located 3-4 kilometers from the front line, has become a gray zone.
Report's Eastern European Bureau prepared a photo report from the region.
Although the Ukrainian army drove out the Russian army from some of the surrounding villages of the city with counter-offensive operations this summer, the area has turned into battlefields, a gray zone, rather than residential areas. However, before the war, it was one of the most economically active regions of Ukraine. The only shopping center in the city, most of which residents have left, is a small 20-meter market.
Anna Vasilyeva, a resident of the region, says that they have been in the frontline for several months now: "Only 5-6 people come to trade in the district market. They are mainly military personnel. This is the only market. The market is open until 12:00. Sometimes residents of collective farms in neighboring villages also come. They bring milk, meat, eggs."
Another resident of Orikhiv, Anatoly Spisev, said that the area is under fire every day: "We live at the expense of the humanitarian aid sent to our city. Most of the inhabitants of Orikhiv have left."
