Mohammad Ali Shafiee: 51,000 homes damaged in Tehran as a result of hostilities

In Tehran, 51,000 homes were damaged as a result of hostilities between the United States, Israel, and Iran, some of which are of architectural value, Tehran Deputy Mayor for International Affairs Mohammad Ali Shafiee said at the World Assembly of Local and Regional Authorities held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).

Report quotes him as saying since 2025 Iran has begun developing a resilient urban planning system.

"Structures must be resilient to hostilities and war. We applied a model in which buses and the metro can operate even under wartime conditions. Civil safety was our top priority. We are ready to share this experience with other countries and cities," he said.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran, resulting in airstrikes on several cities.

On the night of April 8, Iran, the United States and their allies reached a ceasefire agreement. Later, Donald Trump extended the truce indefinitely.
