Media: Türkiye's new foreign minister likely to build ties with Middle East, North Africa

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is likely to step up efforts to build ties with the Middle East and North Africa after taking steps in that direction as head of the national intelligence agency, according to people familiar with the matter.

Report informs via Bloomberg that sources said Fidan had been holding back-channel talks to improve diplomatic relations with countries such as Egypt, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq and Syria.

This course is characterized as part of a wider Turkish foreign policy strategy in the region. It provides for moving away from regional conflicts and attracting foreign investment needed by Türkiye against the backdrop of economic problems.

Fidan has headed Turkish intelligence since 2010 and became the country's first head of intelligence services to be appointed the foreign minister. He was appointed to this position on June 3, when Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who was re-elected for a new term, announced the new Cabinet.
