Kyrgyz president says he intends to run for second term

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has said he intends to run for a second term, Report informs.

He made the remarks in comments to Kyrgyz media.

The head of state stressed that anyone willing to run may take part in the election and that there will be no restrictions for other candidates.

Following amendments to election legislation, the next presidential election is expected to be held on January 27, 2027.

Japarov noted that he had previously considered Kamchybek Tashiyev as Kyrgyzstan's future president.

According to the head of state, if Tashiyev had gained experience and been ready to lead the country by the 2027 election, Japarov had planned not to take part in the vote.

"I had planned to stay in power for six years and not take part in the 2027 election. If he had been ready, gained experience and started working well, I would have made him president and retired myself. The election is due to be held in January 2027. I told him this two or three years ago," Japarov said.
