Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has declared the 6th World Nomad Games open.
Report's correspondent in Bishkek informs that the opening ceremony was held at the new Bishkek Arena stadium.
In his address, Japarov noted that the opening of the Games coincided with the 35th anniversary of Kyrgyzstan's independence and a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization dedicated to the organization's 25th anniversary.
"With the start of the Nomad Games here at Bishkek Arena, friendship between nations will be strengthened alongside sporting competition. It is especially gratifying that this idea is in harmony with the philosophy of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The simultaneous holding in Kyrgyzstan of a meeting of heads of state and the World Nomad Games also carries deep symbolic significance. At one event, state leaders seek paths toward peace and cooperation through dialogue, while at the other, the peoples of the world are brought closer together through sport and culture. Most importantly, both of these major events are based on humanity's highest values - peace and friendship," he said.
Speaking about Kyrgyzstan's development, Japarov highlighted the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, the 1,860 MW Kambar-Ata-1 Hydropower Plant, as well as the year-round Ala-Too Resort ski cluster.
He also noted the launch of the Tamchy financial investment territory on the shores of Issyk-Kul and Kyrgyzstan's election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027-2028.
The opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games is being held in Bishkek. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva are attending the event.
The 6th World Nomad Games will feature sporting competitions, cultural events and a scientific program involving representatives of dozens of countries.
