Some officials working in European structures are pursuing policies directed against Georgia's national interests by receiving orders from forces called the "Deep State," Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze said, Report informs.
While discussing the injustices in relations with the European Union (EU), Kobakhidze recalled that in 2022, Georgia was denied candidate status without any justification. Then, the opening of negotiations with the EU was rejected:
"This is a continuation of injustice. Unfortunately, this injustice is carried out by the hands of European officials. We did everything for Georgia to receive candidate status. But to this day, there is no answer as to why we were deprived of this status in 2022."
According to him, representatives of the "Deep State" demanded that the Georgian government join sanctions against Russia, but the government rejected this proposal. Following this, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recalled his ambassador from Tbilisi.
"No European country criticized this decision because it was carried out in a coordinated manner. We were told that we should join the sanctions and send volunteer fighters. We didn't do this, and as a result, the ambassador was recalled. And for these two reasons – not applying sanctions and not sending fighters – political pressure against us began," the prime minister emphasized.
