Kazakhstan holds talks on construction of second nuclear power plant

Kazakhstan is holding negotiations with potential suppliers on the construction of the country's second nuclear power plant (NPP), Deputy Chairman of Kazakhstan's Atomic Energy Agency Gumar Sergazin said during the 70th session of the IAEA General Conference, Report informs.

"Within the framework of the nuclear program, preparations are underway for the construction of the first NPP, and negotiations are also being conducted with potential suppliers on the issue of building a second NPP," he said.

According to Sergazin, the development strategy of Kazakhstan's nuclear sector until 2050, approved by President Kassym‑Jomart Tokayev in April 2026, lays the foundation for creating a modern nuclear cluster that will integrate energy, industry, science, education, and high‑tech production.
