Inter-municipal cooperation is crucial to addressing the housing crisis.
Report informs that Irem Korkmaz, Director of the Urban Policy Center of the Marmara Municipalities Union, said this during a panel discussion held as part of WUF13 in Baku.
According to her, cooperation today is no longer a choice, but a necessity.
"When land resources are limited and municipalities are facing multiple crises at the same time, no city can cope with them alone," she said.
Korkmaz emphasized that cooperation should be supported by practical mechanisms, while municipal structures are capable of turning local housing needs into fundable and scalable solutions.
"The housing issue cannot be viewed merely as the construction of houses. It should be planned in connection with public transport, infrastructure, basic services, employment and public spaces," she said.
