Iranian Foreign Ministry says negotiations possible on lifting of sanctions on sidelines of UN General Assembly

The presence of Iranian representatives at the UN General Assembly in New York is an excellent opportunity for various meetings and discussions. However, Iran's efforts to lift sanctions will not be limited to issues of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani said at a press conference, Report informs referring to IRNA.

"Iran is committed to diplomatically restore the rights of the people. We have no obstacles to dialogue to return all parties to the nuclear deal. In addition to efforts to lift sanctions, we are still committed to neutralizing them," he said.

Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi traveled to New York last night to attend the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.

In 2015, the UK, Germany, China, Russia, the US, France and Iran entered into a nuclear deal - the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which included the lifting of sanctions in exchange for limits on Iran's nuclear program. In May 2018, the US, under Donald Trump, withdrew from the JCPOA and restored sanctions against Tehran. In response, Iran announced a phased reduction in its obligations under the agreement, abandoning restrictions on nuclear research, centrifuges and uranium enrichment levels.
