The passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz via routes not approved by Iran's Persian Gulf Supervisory Authority (PGSA) does not guarantee safe transit and is not covered by insurance or related liabilities.
According to Report, citing the Fars news agency, the PGSA issued the warning in response to numerous inquiries.
"The shipowner, operator, and captain bear full responsibility for any consequences resulting from navigation along unauthorized routes," the statement said.
Earlier, a cargo vessel in the Gulf of Oman was struck by a projectile.
Despite requests from the United States, Iran and Oman intend to independently oversee maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to The Wall Street Journal, revenues generated from transit fees for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz could bring Iran approximately $40 billion annually.
