Iran resumes ballistic missile production at underground sites, WSJ says

Iran has resumed producing ballistic missiles at underground facilities despite earlier strikes by the United States and Israel on factories in the country, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) wrote.

According to Report, citing the newspaper, US and Middle Eastern officials said Iran had restarted ballistic missile production using stockpiled components at underground facilities.

The officials said activity had been detected at several underground sites, including Khojir, east of Tehran. Iranian specialists are reportedly assembling both missiles that require fueling before launch and models that are ready for immediate use.

Iranian authorities are also seeking to build new underground production complexes, according to the report.

US and regional officials believe Iran is currently assembling missiles mainly from components stockpiled before hostilities began in February.

One US official suggested that Iran resumed production at a low rate after Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding on June 17.

The official estimated that Tehran had enough stockpiled components to assemble at least 200 missiles.
