Iran and Oman have reached a final agreement on a shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz that is expected to be announced soon.
According to Report, citing Tasnim and a source familiar with the matter, the agreement was reached after two months of intensive technical and diplomatic negotiations between Tehran and Muscat.
The agreement is expected to be announced soon with the participation of the foreign ministers of Persian Gulf countries. According to the source, representatives of Iraq will also attend the upcoming meeting.
Tasnim reported that the agreement sets out the details and characteristics of new entry and exit routes through the strait between Iran and Oman.
"The route entering the Persian Gulf passes entirely through Iranian territorial waters, while part of the route exiting the Persian Gulf also passes through Iranian territorial waters. Traffic along this route will be conducted in accordance with Iranian regulations, and once it enters into force, the southern route insisted upon by the United States, which was the main cause of the latest escalation, will be closed," the source said.
The source stressed that the agreement does not mean that the Strait of Hormuz is being reopened.
"The agreement between Iran and Oman only means that if the strait is opened, it will happen on the basis of this agreement, which is considered a step toward affirming Iran's sovereignty," the statement said.
