Iran may agree to open the Strait of Hormuz if the White House lifts sanctions against Tehran, Report informs, citing Fars.
The agency quoted a source close to the negotiating team as saying this.
"Contrary to some speculation and media propaganda, the US Treasury Department's removal of a small number of sanctions is linked to the Iraqi government's engagement with Washington and has nothing to do with an agreement with Iran," the source said.
The publication also recalled that the United States had violated the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, which it said contradicted the established order of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the source, in addition to military action and the naval blockade, the cancellation of permits for the export of oil and petroleum products limited access to frozen Iranian assets.
"The restoration of normal conditions is possible only if Iran takes appropriate measures in the Strait of Hormuz and the United States actually fulfills its obligations," the source said.
According to him, even if a final agreement is reached between Iran and Oman, the opening of the Strait of Hormuz will require additional steps, including the fulfillment of US obligations.
Earlier, Iran and Oman reached an agreement on the geographical features of the shipping route in the Strait of Hormuz.
