Iran and Oman agree on shipping route through Strait of Hormuz

Iran and Oman have agreed on a route map for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, although talks on some issues are still ongoing.

According to Press TV, cited by Report, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said Tehran and Muscat had reached an agreement on the shipping route through the strategic waterway, while several issues remain under discussion.

Iran and Oman are also negotiating an agreement aimed at facilitating the resumption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

According to sources, the agreement under discussion would be temporary and remain in effect for 60 days. Under the reported terms, all inbound vessel traffic through the strait toward the Persian Gulf would use a northern route through Iranian waters.

Outbound traffic through the Strait of Hormuz toward the Arabian Sea would use a southern route through Omani territorial waters, in coordination with Iran.
