Hovhannisyan: Yerevan expects to sign peace treaty with Baku within reasonable timeframe

Armenia expects to sign and ratify a peace treaty with Azerbaijan within a reasonable time frame, Armenia's Permanent Representative to the OSCE Andranik Hovhannisyan said at the 1533rd meeting of the Permanent Council of the organization, Report informs referring to Armenian media.
He presented an explanatory statement by Armenia in connection with the joint initiative of Yerevan and Baku to close the Minsk process.
According to Hovhannisyan, Armenia, together with Azerbaijan, initiated the closure of these structures based on fundamental changes in the situation that made their work irrelevant.
The initiative was formalized by a joint appeal of the foreign ministers of the two countries, signed on August 8, 2025, in Washington.
"The Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan jointly requested the closure of the OSCE Minsk Process structures, as they have lost their relevance given the radical changes in the situation that served as the basis for their creation. The Ministers also reaffirmed their joint commitment to the UN Charter and the Helsinki Final Act to continue the process of normalizing relations at the bilateral level," the Permanent Representative emphasized.
The leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, with the mediation of US President Donald Trump, signed a joint declaration in the White House on August 8. In addition, the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia, in the presence of the leaders of the three countries, initialed the Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations.
