Georgia secures $250M ADB loan for Tbilisi bypass project

Georgia and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed a $250 million loan agreement to finance the construction of the Tbilisi bypass road, Report informs, citing Georgia's Ministry of Finance.

The agreement was signed by Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili and Leslie Bearman Lahm, Director of the ADB Resident Mission in Georgia.

Under the project, an approximately 18.9-kilometer central section of the Tbilisi bypass, consisting of four traffic lanes, will be built. The funding will be used to finance construction works on Lot 4 (Tbilisi International Airport–Lochini) and Lot 5 (Lochini–Rustavi).

The ministry said the project is expected to ease traffic congestion in the capital, improve the safety of transit transportation, and expand the capacity of Georgia's international transport corridors.

The project will be implemented by the Roads Department under Georgia's Ministry of Infrastructure.
