Georgia's Anaklia port to play strategic role in Middle Corridor development

The port of Anaklia will play a strategic role in the development of the Middle Corridor.

Report's Georgia bureau informs that Georgian Economy and Sustainable Development Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili said the strategic importance of the Anaklia deep-sea port for the Middle Corridor was one of the main topics discussed during an official visit to Kazakhstan.

Kvrivishvili, who is visiting Kazakhstan as part of a delegation led by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, noted that further strengthening relations with Astana is of strategic importance for Tbilisi.

According to her, high-level bilateral meetings held during the visit included a broad exchange of views on expanding cooperation between the two countries, as well as on issues related to the development of the Middle Corridor.

Kvrivishvili said the talks particularly emphasized that the Anaklia deep-sea port is of strategic importance not only for Georgia, but also for countries along the entire Middle Corridor.

"The commissioning of the Anaklia deep-sea port will significantly expand our region's transport and logistics capabilities, increase the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor and make an important contribution to the development of freight transportation," the minister said.
