Georgia responds to Azerbaijan's note over delays faced by trucks

Georgia's Foreign Ministry has responded to a diplomatic note submitted by Azerbaijan's embassy in the country over delays faced by trucks with Azerbaijani license plates at Georgian border checkpoints, Report's Georgian bureau informs.

The ministry told Aktual.ge that the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Georgia submitted an official appeal on August 5.

"The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Georgia appealed to the Georgian Foreign Ministry over delays that occurred during the entry of Azerbaijani trucks into Georgia or their movement through the country," the statement said.

The ministry said the information received was immediately forwarded to the relevant state agencies.

"The mentioned information has been brought to the attention of the relevant Georgian agencies. These agencies are taking measures envisaged under Georgian legislation in connection with the identified violations," the Georgian Foreign Ministry said.

Earlier, Report's Georgian bureau said that a group of Azerbaijani truck drivers carrying transit cargo through Georgia had been held at various customs checkpoints for days, and in some cases for more than a month. The drivers were not given an official explanation for the delays, their documents were taken, and Azerbaijan's embassy in Georgia submitted a diplomatic note to the country's Foreign Ministry over the situation.
