A meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the upcoming NATO Summit is expected to center on two key agendas: the alliance's gathering and Trump's state visit to Türkiye, Burhanettin Duran, head of the Turkish Presidency's Communications Directorate, said in a post on X, Report informs.
According to Duran, the leaders are expected to discuss a broad range of bilateral issues that have also been raised during previous phone conversations. Among the topics are cooperation in defense and security, trade relations, the long-running Halkbank case, and the supply of engines for Türkiye's indigenous TAI KAAN fighter jet program.
He said all of these issues are expected to be on the agenda, alongside efforts to strengthen trade ties between Türkiye and the United States.
The expected talks come as the Trump administration is reportedly planning to approve the sale of jet engines worth hundreds of millions of dollars to Türkiye despite objections in the US Congress. The engines, produced by GE Aerospace, are intended for use in the KAAN fighter aircraft.
