Erdogan receives Venezuela's acting president in Türkiye

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has received Venezuela's Acting President Delcy Rodriguez.

Report informs, citing the Turkish Presidential Administration.

The topics discussed at the meeting have not yet been disclosed, but the list of participants has been announced.

"Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacir, and Trade Minister Omer Bolat attended the meeting," the statement said.

Rodriguez, who previously served as Venezuela's vice president, was sworn in and began performing the duties of acting head of state on January 5.

On January 3, Trump announced that the US had carried out a large-scale, successful strike against Venezuela. He said President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, had been detained and removed from Venezuelan territory.

Two days later, on January 5, the Venezuelan leader and his wife appeared before a court in New York to face charges. Maduro pleaded not guilty in court and added that he was still the president of his country. The US court allowed consular officials to visit Venezuela.

The second hearing in the case of Maduro and his wife was held on March 26, 2026, in a federal court in New York under Judge Alvin Hellerstein.
