Chairman of Russia’s State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin has warned Armenia against attempts to involve European structures in resolving the situation in the region, Report informs.
Volodin was speaking in Moscow on February 13 at a meeting with Azerbaijani Parliament Speaker Sahiba Gafarova.
The chairman of the State Duma stressed that the normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan should be based on an agreement signed by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia.
“Let’s proceed from the fact that there is a decision taken at the level of the heads of state - Azerbaijan, Armenia and the Russian Federation. We will be guided by this and, for our part, will do everything to ensure that these agreements are implemented,” said Volodin. “Those who do statements in the direction of European institutions can simply lose the country.”
“Before appealing to the European Parliament and involving this body in resolving some issues, we must answer: in general, was any acute issue or a conflict situation with the participation of the European Parliament, PACE, resolved? There is no such example,” noted the chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation. “Look at what happened in Ukraine, what statements were made by German Chancellor Merkel and then French President Hollande. As it turned out now, they fooled the whole world, lied, while they themselves were preparing for war.”
Volodin stressed that, therefore, those wishing to involve the European Parliament and PACE “should think 10 times and weigh how this could end.”
