Bochorishvili says Georgia-US relations show signs of recovery

Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili discussed the current state of bilateral relations during a meeting with US Chargé d'Affaires in Georgia Amy V. Diaz, Report's Georgian bureau informs.

Bochorishvili spoke about the meeting on the Daily Chronicle program.

According to the minister, positive changes have been observed in relations between the two countries in recent months.

"In recent months, we have seen signs of positive recovery in our relations. We have repeatedly expressed our position on what we expect from relations with the United States. Our desire is for these relations to be based on mutual respect and a healthy, substantive strategic partnership. We will continue working with the American side in this direction," Bochorishvili said.

She added that Washington's recent steps had created an additional opportunity for Georgia to convey its position to the US.

The minister said she believes the new US administration will take a fair approach toward Georgia.

"We are fully ready to continue political dialogue with the United States, and we expect the same from the US," she said.

According to Bochorishvili, both sides believe strategic partnership relations should begin from a new stage.

"It can be said that both sides share the view that we should start speaking about strategic partnership from a new page. However, we believe, and we have shared this with the American side, that our strategic partnership must be filled with concrete substance. How this substance will be shaped will undoubtedly be a matter of diplomatic work and political dialogue with the American side," she said.
