Armenian parliament approves government program for 2026–2031

The Armenian Parliament has approved the government program for 2026–2031, with 63 deputies from the ruling Civil Contract party voting in favor and 24 deputies from the opposition Strong Armenia faction voting against.

The second opposition faction, Armenia, boycotted the vote, Report informs, citing Armenian media.

In the section of the program dedicated to foreign policy, it is noted that the government intends to formalize peace with Azerbaijan, normalize relations with Türkiye, develop strategic ties with the EU, the US, Iran, and Georgia, as well as foster multifaceted relations with Russia.

The program also includes a section titled "Spiritual Security," which highlights the need to prevent attempts by external forces to turn the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC) into an instrument of hybrid warfare.

Additionally, the program includes a section providing for the resignation of Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II.

Regarding the Armed Forces section, it states that the army will not be deployed outside the internationally recognized borders of Armenia, except for participation in international missions.

The transition to a professional army and the strengthening of the military reserve will continue.

In the area of national security, plans include expanding food reserves, diversifying them, and reducing dependence on single suppliers.

In the energy sector, a technology for a new nuclear power plant is planned to be selected by the end of 2027.

Energy source diversification will also proceed.

By 2040, the combined capacity of solar and wind power plants is planned to reach 2,000 MW, with energy storage system capacity reaching at least 800 MW.
