Armenian nuclear power plant resumes operations after maintenance

The Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant has been reconnected to Armenia"s power grid following the completion of scheduled maintenance work, Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan said on social media, according to Report.

"Following the successful completion of the scheduled preventive maintenance work for 2026, the plant's second power unit was restarted and connected to Armenia's unified power grid on September 1. During the work, around 20 important measures aimed at improving the reliability, safety and efficiency of the power unit were implemented," he wrote.

According to him, the maintenance work lasted 153 days, in line with the schedule.

"The power unit is operating normally, and its capacity is being gradually increased in accordance with the established technical requirements," the minister noted.

In April, the Metsamor NPP was disconnected from Armenia's power grid for five months as part of a program to extend its operating life, implemented in cooperation with Rosatom.

The plant is one of Armenia's main sources of electricity. It operates a single first-generation VVER-440 reactor unit, with fuel supplied by TVEL, a Rosatom subsidiary.
