Armenia turns to EAEU over Russian import restrictions on Armenian goods

Armenia has applied to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) with a complaint regarding restrictions imposed by Russia on the import of Armenian goods, Deputy Minister of Economy of Armenia Tigran Gasparyan said at a briefing, Report informs, citing Armenian media.

According to him, the issue is being considered not only within the contacts between Armenia and Russia, but also within the EAEU, where mechanisms exist to eliminate such trade barriers.

"We have filed a complaint. We hope and are confident that the mechanisms should work to eliminate the obstacles," Gasparyan said.

He noted that, in the opinion of the Armenian side, the introduced restrictions do not comply with the agreements and principles in force within the EAEU.

"In our opinion, these obstacles do not correspond to the agreements and principles reached within the EAEU. That is why we are fighting for the EAEU to function in accordance with its principles," the deputy minister emphasized.

Gasparyan added that Armenia is using EAEU tools to restore violated principles.

Rosselkhoznadzor introduced a ban on supplies of flowers from Armenia starting May 22, introduced temporary restrictions on the import of fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, greens, and strawberries from the republic starting May 30, on the import of stone fruits (cherries, sweet cherries, apricots, plums, peaches, nectarines) and fresh grapes starting June 2, and on the import of pome fruits, eggplants, potatoes, and dried fruits from Armenia starting June 3.

In addition, in June, the Russian side introduced restrictions on the import of live fish and fish products from Armenia.
