Armenia's CEC says there are no grounds to review election results

Armenia's Central Election Commission (CEC) has stated that there were no violations capable of affecting the outcome of the country's parliamentary elections.

According to Report, citing Armenian media, the statement was made before the Constitutional Court by Nune Hovhannisyan, Deputy Chair of the CEC.

Hovhannisyan said the Commission's decisions on the allocation of parliamentary mandates and the certification of the election results were adopted in full compliance with the requirements of the Electoral Code.

She noted that, under Armenian law, elections may be declared invalid only if the consequences of identified violations cannot be remedied through repeat voting at individual polling stations.

According to Hovhannisyan, irregularities recorded at separate polling stations cannot automatically be applied to the entire country or serve as grounds to question the overall election results.

"Election results may be declared invalid only if the violations make it impossible to determine the genuine will of the voters," the deputy CEC chair said.

She added that only legally substantiated violations that had, or could have had, a decisive impact on the final outcome of the vote could justify annulling the election results.

Armenia held parliamentary elections on June 7. According to the final results, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's Civil Contract party won 49.83% of the vote, securing the right to form the government on its own.
