Armenia's Anti-Corruption Court has ordered former Finance Minister and ex-head of the State Revenue Committee Gagik Khachatryan to be detained for two months, Armenian media reported.
The decision was made by Judge Aram Grigoryan. The court hearing on the detention request continued throughout the night and concluded on the morning of September 2.
Khachatryan was detained the previous day. Due to his health condition, he was brought to court on a stretcher.
According to Armenia's Investigative Committee, a criminal case has been opened over allegations of receiving bribes and large-scale money laundering. As part of the investigation, searches were conducted at apartments belonging to Khachatryan and his son, as well as at the offices and branches of approximately 21 companies linked to them.
Khachatryan headed Armenia's State Revenue Committee from August 20, 2008, to April 26, 2014. He served as Armenia's Finance Minister from 2014 to 2016.
