Alen Simonyan: There is no opposition in Armenian parliament

Currently, there is no opposition in the Armenian Parliament; there are only individual politicians seeking a place within other political forces and the future parliament, Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan said during a press briefing today, Report informs via Armenian media.

"There is no opposition in the National Assembly. I believe there is an extra-parliamentary opposition, and I hope most of them will appear in the upcoming elections. There are opposition politicians outside parliament, and I hope they will enter parliament so that we finally have an opposition within it," the speaker said.

Simonyan also emphasized that the ruling Civil Contract party is fully aware of its position in the country, and the political force led by businessman and founder of the Tashir Group, Samvel Karapetyan, does not pose a serious challenge.

It is noted that parliamentary elections in Armenia are scheduled for June 7, 2026.
